Pavement is only as good as its base
A clean asphalt surface laid over a weak base looks great for a year, then cracks and sinks. We do not have that problem, because we build the base ourselves. We grade for drainage, pack the gravel base, then pave over ground we know is solid.
How an asphalt paving job works
We grade and compact the subgrade, then lay and pack Caltrans Class 2 base to the depth the traffic needs. We pave hot-mix asphalt in 2 to 3 inch lifts and roll it to compaction while it is hot. Most driveways take one to three days, and you can drive on a new surface within a day or two.
